The No BS Label is an Afro-Indigenous, Two-Spirit owned and operated creative business founded by Shawntelle Clarke and their spouse, Brandy Clarke. Rooted in culture, identity, and bold self-expression, our label celebrates the vibrant stories of our heritage and community through unique, handcrafted jewelry and art.

unlike many brands that outsource production overseas, the no bs label proudly handcrafts and prints our clothing, and jewlery and design is made by us. Ensuring cultural accuracy, quality control and fair labour practices. We don’t rely on mass production, we build community through creation.

Shawntelle and Brandy bring their passion and lived experience into every piece, creating designs that honor Indigenous traditions and Two-Spirit pride while embracing modern style. Each item is carefully handmade with love and intention, reflecting our commitment to authenticity, creativity, and resilience.

Founder and Co-Owner & Beader

Shawntelle Clarke (They/He/She), Two-Spirit, Queer, Founder and Co-owner of The No BS Label comes from Kebaowek First Nation (Algonquin) and Trinidadian heritage. With a design background and a fashion course from university, she always knew she was meant to create. While he didn’t initially imagine designing beadwork, jewelry, stickers, and accessories, her artistic journey has grown into a vibrant expression of culture and identity.

Shawnee feels deeply lucky to know where he comes from, acknowledging that many are still learning and growing in their own journeys of identity and heritage. he welcomes everyone with open arms, honoring all paths toward self-discovery. When shawnee met Brandy, Brandy encouraged her to be free. Brandy Cut Shawnee's hair for the first time and she hasnt gone back since. Shawnee feels like Shawnee not Male nor Female. But is comfortable with all pronouns. Shawnee loves her culture and loves to share it with others. She grew up in Durham region but she always sought out community Joining the Indigenous group in highschool where there was only one other student by the way. As well as in university she made bannock and NDN Tacos for everybody. That is where she found a love for cooking.

Her love of beading is a full-circle moment her papa used to do loom work, and now she carries on that tradition by hand-beading. She hopes one day to pass this knowledge down to her nieces and nephews, especially since her niece has already shown an interest in beading.

When not crafting, Shawntelle can be found on the couch with her two Siamese cats, snacks, and a good movie or TV show, playing video games, baking (she loves to make chocolate chip cookies and cakes her specialty. You can also catch her at the gym or doing something fun like riding a bike, canoeing, or going on some type of adventure.

Co-Owner & Crafter & Graphic Designer

Brandy Clarke (she/they/he) is the co-owner of The No BS Label and the creative mind behind its visual identity. Of mixed Trinidadian, Irish, and Indigenous ancestry, Brandy’s mother was adopted in 1970 and her Indigenous roots remain a work in progress Brandy is currently navigating the process of reconnecting with their maternal lineage. Her father, Trinidadian, was absent for much of her life, but they’re slowly rebuilding a relationship now.

With a background in media, design, and marketing, Brandy helps bring Shawnee’s visions to life from digitizing sketches and managing the website to booth displays and packaging. She also does the printing services. Originally starting out baking, Brandy’s path naturally shifted to craft and culture, where she found a deeper sense of belonging. Eight years ago, she attended her first ceremony, and even tried her first roti made by Shawnee’s dad.

These days, you’ll find Brandy with family, or at home snuggling their Siamese cat Lily or playing Disney Dreamlight Valley on the Switch.
